Harbor Bar and Grill Reviews
Taste of Ireland
This welcome addition to Dun Laoghaire has a modern menu, all cooked fresh and even a hot lunch special for under a tenner. Good food, good value and a wide selection. There are fresh fish specials each day, and the quality is second to none.
The Harbor Bar and Grill is situated on Marine Road in Dun Laoghaire, somewhere that has seen it's fair share of changes over the last few years. The whole building has been renovated and inside is now a very large restaurant and bar area, that serves food right throughout the day and into the evening.
The Room is very large, with dark wood floors and a bar apparently reclaimed from a convent school. Large tables are dotted around the food area, and brightly coloured turquoise almost circular booths divide the room and add a splash of colour. The very open plan kitchen is decorated in a nice black and white tile effect and what is probably the largest marble counter I have ever seen. The whole effect is impressive, it has to be said.
They have a fairly simple one page menu which lists an all day menu. There is a varied choice which includes buffalo wings, steamed mussels, deep fried calamari, lamb shank, pork and leek sausages and a rib-eye steak. The menu is well thought out, and is priced from €4.75 for the soup up to €19.95 for the steak, with most things priced from €8 to €12.
In addition to the main menu there are daily specials on a blackboard, usually the soup of the day and the catch of the day. I wanted to try the main menu so started with the chicken wings and ordered haddock and home made chips for the main course. The wings were juicy and served with a spicy sauce and blue cheese dip. Very nice, while the haddock had a crispy batter and was perfectly cooked inside. The chips were big and floury and the fish sat atop mushy mint peas. This was a very nice dish.
Harbor Bar and Grill is good. It is unpretentious, stylish and serves very good food at reasonable prices. Finish with a home made dessert and then walk it off with a constitutional along the pier. Gotta be good!
Testimonials
“My Husband and I stayed at the Harbor Bar & Grill towards the end of August. We were welcomed in a professional yet friendly manner, and were escorted to our room. The premises were clean, tidy, the bathroom was spacious, but above all, the room was very comfortable. We were both satisfied with the food and service during our stay, and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful view of Dun Laoghaire Harbor nearby. Overall, I feel Harbor Bar & Grill offers affordable accomodation with a high standard of service. My husband and I are already considering returning next summer!”

“Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Harbor Bar & Grill and have to say it's the best hotel i've ever stayed in. The rooms are very, very comfortable & clean, all the staff are great. Overall I can't think of one negative thing to say about this place & have no hesitation in recommending it to all!”

“We stayed at Harbor Bar & Grill for one night on a holiday weekend. It's a fun, downtown spot with great, comfortable rooms and a relaxed atmosphere. Ideal for leisure travel rather than business (unless your business in music, film, culture, fashion, etc.).”
